Anybody interested in mobile media and embedded development?

Come to Santa Clara, CA, Silicon Valley Jan 21-22!

The Mobile, Media, and eMbedded Developer Days is two weeks from now. Read the featured segment on the JavaFX Mobile sessions in the fifth of our weekly updates below.

https://developerdays.dev.java.net/nonav/newsletters/M3DD-Countdown5.pdf

You can hear more from Juraj Svec and Jan Sterba of the JavaFX Mobile development team about the JavaFX Mobile platform and development challenges they faced in the Mobile & Embedded weekly podcast below.

http://today.java.net/pub/a/today/2009/01/06/javamobility-podcast67.html

Finally, there are still a number of Poster Session slots available
for the conference. Poster sessions come from the academic world where they are used to promote research. For M3DD the primary purpose of a poster is the communication of information and ideas to the attendees by combining text and graphics to make a visually-pleasing presentation. This is a great one-on-one time with developers about your products or project. If your interested in having a poster sessions submit a proposal as outlined in the M3DD Call for Papers
(https://developerdays.dev.java.net/nonav/callforpapers.html) and
follow the guidelines in my blog (http://tinyurl.com/7zdkly) from last
year.

Want to learn how to read mobile device functions using Javascript? Good post by Fred G

This is a repost of info from Fred Grott about how to use Javascript to read device functions such as GPS info out of your device. Good blog. /Thomas

Hello everyone,

I should have some videocasts of demos showing the reading of GPS via javascript on the Android Platform up at my YouTube Channel shortly:

http://www.youtube.com/user/memine44

Yes, that is correct reading GPS from javaqscript as in fact you can
do that with any browser that supports css2/css/3, and javscript and
has a javascript bridge such as iPhone, Android, and Symbian S60.
Also LiMO is set to release in 2009 devices with the same functions.

The native libs I use to enable this is PhoneGap which I recently have
become a new member of and will be contributing code changes and the Symbian s60 port.

progress also detailed at my blog:

http://www.jroller.com/shareme

Still on a seed capital quest but I have a feeling once the reading
GPS from javascript videos are posted that issue may be solved.

I hope everyone is having a nice set of holidays.

Peace and happy hacking

Yahooligans - feel like exploring the place? This is for you then (MoMo Silicon Valley)

This is a repost from a friend of mine at Mobile Monday. If you are availabe on Dec. 1 and in Silicon Valley, just drive up to the eastern side of highway 237 in Sunnyvale and go and check out the Yahoo campus.

The December Silicon Valley Mobile Monday is going to take place at
Yahoo on December 1st:

* What: December 2008 Mobile Monday (Yahoo! Blueprint)
* When: December 1st, 2008 7:00pm
* Where: Yahoo! Sunnyvale, URLs Cafe Building C, 701 First Ave,
Sunnyvale CA 94089
(drive up to first Security kiosk for parking and instructions)
* Who: Anyone interested in mobility
* Cost: Nothing! (but please sign up on Eventbrite)
* Eventbrite: http://mobilemonday sv.eventbrite. com/

Markus gave a great presentation about Blueprint at Mobile 2.0,
Enrique from MoMo Austin just published a tutorial focused on it, and
Marc Davis has been wanting to show off more of the details at some
point. During the "lull" between the holiday breaks things are
normally much slower for me at work and I have some time to play with
some of the cool stuff I've had on the back burner for months. I know
a bunch of you are in similar situations. Blueprint is one of those
for me, so December should be a great time for a technical overview of
building mobile services with Yahoo's new platform.

Thanks to Mario Tapia for setting us up with the presentation a place
in which to have it! Hope to see you all there, don't forget to sign up!

- Mike

Best regards,
/Thomas

Views from Stockholm and holiday season starting

Walking to the SIME2008 event and back home at night in the fresh and mild weather for being November in Stockholm gets me thinking about the event. A driving trend now in media is how to seamlessly embed always-on internet web services in the real physical media to prolong the life of media as we know it. I think 5-10 years from now, if you want a newspaper in print you have to print it yourself. With Amazon Kindle and Sony Reader getting better and better plus smart mobile phones and personal internet devices, you control what you have and want to play with....

Swedes will be able to buy iPhones with prepaid service from Nov. 17

Hoping to boost holiday sales this season, Telia is starting selling iPhones with prepaid SIM cards. Only one choice though, black 8GB models with 600MB of data use included (valid for 6 months) and 5495 SEK for the package deal. After 6 months you have to refill your data service priced at 100 SEK for 100MB.

A good strategy for younger people who may find it difficult to get a mobile phone subscription service.
